Yard Sale Goodies: 1

Sometimes it feels like I'm stealing from a person for the prices I see at a yard sale.

For example, take one of my latest finds:
Isn't this just the cutest footed bowl?  I HEART whiteware, and this white footed bowl caught my eye almost immediately.  Sure, it's not milk glass or true whiteware, but this stoneware piece's lines and sturdiness caught my eye as a potential replacement for my fruit bowl (which IS milk glass and in constant reach of my kids).

For the price, I couldn't beat it:
Yes, that really does say a dollar.  Not too shabby for a bowl my kids could knock to the floor at any given moment when reaching for an apple.

Imagine my surprise when I got the bowl home and started cleaning it up.  I flipped it over to wipe off something stuck to the bottom and I got to the original price sticker.
$40?  Seriously?  For a decorative bowl?
I'm super-stoked.  Not only did I get this at an awesome steal, but it looks fantastic on the counter filled with apples.

    Wow, what a great find! I love that bowl- very cute. I do love yard sales. My husband and I bought a vintage bottle of wine 25+ years old once. Snce selling liquor w/o a license is illegal, the guy sold us "the bottle". We bought an amazing vintage wine for... $1! Here via comment hour. Grata stuff!

    I can picture it with those apples. It must be so pretty!! GREAT find! I am a yard sale hoster, not too much of a shopper. Maybe someday, when I finally rid myself of all my stuff I'll go back out on the hunt!

    That's gorgeous bowl! Lucky you! I haven't been to a yard sale in a long time, but my aunt picked up a large glass footed bowl (must be a trend) for me at a thrift store for $3 that was originally $35. Price tag was still on it. Love that!

    That is definitely a great bowl... and yeah, for originally $40 I say you got away with something pretty nifty.

    I haven't had any great finds like that (but then again, I rarely go thrift/yard sale shopping), but I did have a friend who picked up an armchair from a yardsale that was in moderate shape that used to be $200. I think if I had been in her shoes, I would have called the people back just to gloat. But... well, that's not always advisable. :P

    Aww... thanks everyone! Someday I'll have to post about my milk glass collection- I've never paid more than $2 for any piece of it- gained from yard sales and thrift shops.
